STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING (SUP)
Ever wanted to try Paddle Boarding but don't have a board?
Whether you're completely new to the sport, going on holiday and want to look like you know what you're doing or just fancy getting out on the water, our Paddle Boarding Taster Sessions at Dover and Conningbrook Lakes are a fun and relaxed way to get started.
Paddling with us
Non members
If you’ve never paddled with us before and you’re not already a member, your first SUP Taster session is £25 per person, which includes your Cinque Ports Sailing membership for the rest of the year. It’s the perfect way to get started, try SUP and become part of the club at the same time!
If you enjoy it (and we’re pretty sure you will!), you can book future SUP sessions at the member rate of £15 per session. SUP sessions are available to Cinque Ports Sailing members only.
Membership includes the required insurance to take part in all club activities. If you’re already a member, you can book SUP sessions at the £15 member rate.
Please note: At Dover, all children under 18 taking part in Stand Up Paddleboard Tasters must be accompanied by a participating parent or legal guardian, whether member or non-member.
Members
Already a member of Cinque Ports Sailing? SUP sessions are just £15 per session for members and your annual membership already includes the required insurance.
We’ll check your membership when you arrive, so please bring your card or membership number if you have it—but if not, no problem, we can easily look you up.

What you will learn
Learn the fundamentals of stand-up paddleboarding, including paddling technique, turning, and board control. Build your confidence on the water as you progress towards standing up and riding independently, with lots of time to practise your skills.
You’ll also have the chance to experience what happens if you fall in, and learn essential self-rescue skills to help you get back on your board safely.
No previous experience is needed, and all equipment is provided. Just bring your enthusiasm and a sense of fun.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Dover
- Maximum 6 Paddlers to 1 instructor, so lots of opportunity to learn
- 90 minute session
Please arrive 15 minutes before your session starts and check in at the Dover Sea Sports Centre (on the beach).
Once you arrive:
- You’re welcome to use the changing rooms at Dover Sea Sports Centre
- Get kitted up with a buoyancy aid (and a helmet for under 18s), plus your paddle board and paddle
- Head down to the beach and get on the water with your instructor
What to wear
- Beach shoes, Crocs, or flip flops that you don’t mind getting wet (you’ll need to walk over pebbles to reach the shoreline — no bare feet, as it can be uncomfortable)
- You will definitely get wet — expect to wade in and possibly fall in!
- Summer: shorts and a t-shirt, or a shorty wetsuit if you have one
- Spring/Autumn: wetsuits or drysuits are essential
- A waterproof jacket if it’s chilly
What to bring
- Sun cream, hat, and sunglasses (for sunny days)
- Water bottle
- Towel
- A full change of clothes for after your session
Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Conningbrook Lakes
- Maximum 6 Paddlers to 1 instructor, so lots of opportunity to learn
- 90 minute session
Please arrive at the Lake 15 minutes before your session starts
Once you arrive:
- Arrive dressed ready to go - there are no changing facilities at the lake so best to come in your paddling clothes
- Get kitted up with a buoyancy aid (and a helmet for under 18s), plus your paddle board and paddle
- Head down to the beach and get on the water with your instructor
What to wear
- Beach shoes, Crocs, or flip flops that you don’t mind getting wet as you need to walk to the lake's edge - no bare feet as there are stones at the edge of the lake
- You will definitely get wet — expect to wade in and possibly fall in!
- Summer: shorts and a t-shirt, or a shorty wetsuit if you have one
- Spring/Autumn: wetsuits or drysuits are essential
- A waterproof jacket if it’s chilly
What to bring
